In June 2026, the Austin Museum of Popular Culture will launch a 90-day program featuring a retrospective exhibition showcasing the influential poster art and comic books of Gilbert Shelton, a key figure in the formative years of Austin’s culture change in the 1960’s an 70’s.
The Exhibit will include:
Original posters and drawings by Gilbert Shelton
Comic book panels and photographs that capture the essence of the era
Screens displaying rolling information and imagery to provide context and enhance the visitor experience
8 special events with panel discussions, lectures and the opportunity for attendees to record oral history stories about their experiences in the past and current day
