Joe Ely

Joe Ely (pronounced EE-LEE), born in 1947, is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist whose music touches on honky-tonk, Texas Country, Tex-Mex and rock. He was a key figure in the progressive country scene in Austin, Tx., during the 1970s and ‘80s, performing with notable artists like Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, and Linda Ronstadt, among many others. Ely's career spanned over four decades, during which he released numerous albums and was recognized for his powerful live performances and heartfelt lyrics about life and love. He passed away in December 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy in the music industry.
