Ken Featherston

Ken Featherston was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and attended the University of Texas. He left academe to pursue his artwork in the rock n roll world centered around the Armadillo World Headquarters. There he became one of the main members of the Armadillo Art Squad. Ken’s fine pen and ink drawing was among the most compelling of all the great poster artists of the era. His body of work is legendary.

The 1975 Mahavishnu Orchestra poster he did for the Armadillo was his first.  After that he averaged three posters a month for the venue.  Among his best designs was the album cover for The Marshall Tucker Band’s Searchin’ For A Rainbow LP.

Ken did double duty at the Armadillo working on the house security team.  He was killed in November 1975 outside the Armadillo World Headquarters in an altercation that occurred when a disgruntled customer was ejected for a Pointer Sisters show. Jim Franklin helped police catch Ken’s killer.  The world still mourns this loss.
